Should Have, Could Have, Would Have!

If you are they type that says this, shut the hell up!

Everytime I play poker, someone mentions that fact that they would have had a great hand if they wouldn’t have folded. I’ve even seen Doyle do this. But what really pisses me off if some asshole say, “Should Have, could Have, would Have,” with a freakin’ stupid grin on their face, like they actually said something profound. Fuck them! It’s stupid. And more than that, they are the same assholes who always cry over the hands they didn’t play!

So, if your a poker player and you way these words, you’re an asshole, but it’s not to late to change. Stop saying the stupid crap!

Sorry, had to get that off my chest!

New Poker Player Took My Chips!

.
Five handed, single table, have a good chip stack, probably second in chips and I’m on the big blind with Jh-8h. Everyone just called and no one raises. I check.

The flop, 5h, 7h, As.

Player to my right checks. I put a three-quarter pot bet with my flush draw. Fold, fold, fold, back to the first checker who calls me. She’s the small stack, about half of what I have.

At this point I’m putting her on an ace, although she usually would have raised with an pair of ace’s, I’m thinking she’s got a bad kicker and thinks I have an ace as well.

Next card Ah

She puts in a bet, a smallish one, which tells me she got her trips and thinks it’s good. I do have the flush and I figured that’s what she is afraid of. She is one of those newer players who still thinks this backwards logic. She’ll say things like “I only bet a little because I thought you may have the flush”

Anyway, here is how I might played it badly, but I don’t think so. Normal logic says for me to bet big because she might have a higher heart and might catch another on the river, or the fill up if she has trips, so I need to push her out.

The problem with that, she is a new player and, while I might get her to fold a flush draw (and that is debatable), I’m not getting her to fold trips, which is what I was sure she had.

I just call

River – 10c. She bets, I raise, she moves all-in, I call. She has A-10 off, and filled up on the river.

Here was my thought, she is a beginner player who is short stacked and I’m convince, would have played it the same way if she had trips. On the other hand, in hindsight, knowing that if she has trip ace’s and we would probably get all our money in anyway, I might have pushed on the turn, and maybe, just maybe, she might have folded.

Kings and Little Men – Wild Card Madness!

I hate wild card poker games. I’ll tolerate them if we are playing dealer calls and someone wants to play, like 5 card draw with 2’s, or one-eyed jacks wild. Amateurs love to call one-eyed jacks or the suicide king wild. It makes them sound so “cool”.

Anyway, when they start getting into games with tons of wild cards that can change, or whatever, I get up and leave. If they say 8’s and 3’s are wild, I leave. If they play a game called “baseball”, I leave. When you ask them why, they tell you it’s to increase the action. In my opinion, it’s to help bad players win, but that’s me!

The crown jewel of dim-witted poker games is Kings and Little Men.

This is a guts style game in which the lowest card in you hand, as well as and king is automatically wild.

Here is the way it is played. Each player is dealt five cards. You can now exchange 3 cards from the deck. No the way I was first taught, you had to commit to being “in” or “out” before exchanging cards. I’ve since learned that any people play in after the draw, which is better, but still stupid. Once everyone gets their cards, the ones that decided to they are “in” show their cards. The best hand wins. The losers matches the pot. This game gets expensive quick.

Here is the thing. I’ve been dealt three queens in this game, which gives me 4 queens, due to the fact that my lowest card is wild. I exchanged the one card. Another player kept to cards. I didn’t improved. He, on the other hand, kept a pair of sevens. He drew two fives and a king. That gives him five of a kind. Four queens aren’t good enough in this game.

Four of a kind in the minimum you can stay in with. Usually the winner will have five of a kind or a straight flush. You’ll find yourself on a decision for a huge pot on weather your four of a kind is good enough and folding boats. That’s not poker, that ridiculousness!

Do yourself a favor, drop these games and becomes a real poker player! Friends don’t let friends play wild cards!
