Here is another example of how never, ever to play pocket aces! This is a hand I was involved in but got out early before any damage was done. Early in a small tournament I was the big blind with 6-8 off-suit in a table of six. Everyone limped in, no one folded and no one raised. I was happy to see the flop for cheap.
The flop came down 4,5,6 rainbow. The player to my right puts in a min-bets and I just call. The girl to my left raises triple that. The next player folds followed by a all-in at the end of the table. After two folds, it comes back to me. I fold, of course. I have no doubt the girl on the end has hit her straight with a 7-8 offsuit. (I should add that a couple of hands earlier she hit high two pair on the flop, slow played it, and was beaten by trips on the river.) She was in no mood to be drawn out on again. The girl to my right thinks for a while and calls. Pocket Aces!
Needless to say, the straight holds up and the girl with the aces is out.
Here is the thing: Even with the glory that is pocket aces, you are a dog to five other hands. You are not a favorite! The ideal situation in to be heads-up with another player. I know it sucks if you raise and everyone else folds but it’s better than sitting on the rail watching the game.
Is there a time to slow play them? Yes. When you are certain only one other player will be in the pot. For example, I’m in the small blind and every folds to me and I have aces. I know the player in the big blind is crazy and loves to raise. I might just call and wait for him to stick in a bet and then make a move. Let him hang himself, as they say.
More later.

In a closely watched case that could have significant consequences for the online gaming industry, a King County judge on Thursday upheld a Washington state statute that outlaws Internet gambling. But Lee Rousso, the attorney who brought the case seeking to have the law overturned, has vowed to continue the fight. He promised an appeal saying he will take his case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary.
