So I’m a big fan of Skeptical Podcasts but I realize listening to podcasting is more the exception that the rule. So, I’m going to try to post dialogue from some of my favorite podcasts that express my beliefs. I hope the podcasters don;t mind! In this case, The Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe Podcast #222 – Oct 21 2009, talks to James Randi, in which the subject of Susan Summers, Oprah Winfrey and Chemotherapy come up!

Sometimes it might be hard to understand what is being said and that’s when I use (???). I may skip little bits of dialogue that has no significance on the conversation. I would recommend that you listen to the actual show!

James Randi

Susan Summers made an announcement the just the other day when I was in midst of Chemo infusion. I turned on the television and she was there on Oprah Winfrey, was it, I think it was Oprah Winfrey.

Yes I think so, yeah

James Randi

And she was saying that Chemotherapy has been proven to be total nonsense, so I yanked the needle out of my arm, of course (Laughter) You know what kind of authority she is! She’s an actress! She medial training is profound!

Steve Novella

Susan Summers, man, don’t me started on her. So she recently said that, um, Patrick Swayze, you know, who died on cancer, she said he died because of the Chemotherapy.

James Randi

That’s right!

Than she has to apologize for it

Oprah just fawns over her like crazy! Oprah is one of the most dangerous women in history, let alone in this (??)

Absolutely. She gives the platform for every crank and charlatan that’s out there.

Oh, Absolutely. She’s the loud speaker, she’s the amplifier. No doubt. She takes something that’s terrible and makes it 100 times worse.

And makes it, apparently acceptable to a lot of little ladies who are sitting there in their rocking chairs and watching. And they’ll go out and buy the book.
